WRM Town Hall Meeting
July 19, 2020
The news last week that our school would be closed to on-campus learning was hard on us all. As I walked through the building on Friday evening, I was filled with a deep sense of gratitude for the work of our faculty and staff, followed quickly by sadness that most of our students will not be returning on Monday morning. The development of WRM’s Mitigation Plan is clearly unique among Dallas County schools and our implementation over the last two weeks brought us the certainty of our ability to minimize risk to all on our campus. We are feeling disheartened and discouraged and I will continue to advocate for the return of children to our school as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime, we are adapting to this new ‘fork in the road.’
For those of you who have not taken the opportunity, I encourage you all to look into whether your family qualifies for Essential Worker status. Currently, campuses can remain open to provide this much-needed service to those providing critical infrastructure needs during the shutdowns resulting from the pandemic. This guidance from the Department of Homeland Security may be useful to you in identifying if you qualify for this option. For those who qualify, please complete the Attestation for Child Care for Essential Workers Form and submit it to me as soon as possible. Your children may start anytime this week if need be.
As part of the Plan A option, WRM committed to providing your child/ren 165 days of on-campus education during the 2020-2021 school year. Given we were relying heavily on this first five weeks of the early start for this plan to be effective, I can no longer guarantee this will happen. We have created a Revised Plan A Schedule for your review and have added additional days in order to reclaim 15 of the 16 days lost to this unexpected closure. However, given the current situation, we cannot know when campuses will reopen or for how long.
As a result, I am giving everyone the opportunity to revise their enrollment commitment for the upcoming school year. You can review the options and submit your revisions through this form for Plan A (July 6th start) students/families or through this form for Plan B (August 17th start) students/families. I will be hosting another Town Hall meeting this Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. and you can log into that session via this link. I request you submit your questions for the Town Hall in advance by using this form.
If you would like to still visit campus with your child/ren, a great way to do that is to sign up for Animal Care. If you have not been through Animal Care training this year, please contact Mr. Connery at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we make this quantum shift in our planning. I look forward to answering your questions during our time together on Thursday evening.

Dear July 6th Start Parents~
In accordance with the Dallas County Executive Order released earlier today, WRM will close for on-campus learning effective immediately. Care for Essential Worker families will resume on Monday, July 20th at 8:30 a.m.
I will be updating you all as the situation progresses and plan to release an FAQ form as soon as possible and schedule another Town Hall meeting later in the week.
