In this exciting art-filled camp, budding artists will experience it all. Clay, paper mache, drawing, painting, and more! Each day offers new media and techniques to explore, inspiring and activating creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving, all guised in a fun, choice-based expressive atmosphere.

Ms. Holly earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus on illustration from the College of Art and Design at Lesley University in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a Texas native who has illustrated over a dozen children’s books. Before joining the WRMS family, she taught at a private art studio in Richardson for eleven years to students of all ages.

Get your jazz hands ready for Give My Regards to Broadway! This camp will get you singing and dancing some of Broadway’s greatest songs.  Students will learn theater basics such as costume and set design, voice projection, and blocking, the movement of the actors on stage.  On the last day of the camp, the students will share what they have worked on that week with a small performance!

Mrs. Wheeler has taught musical theater for children elementary age to high school, and directed the musicals “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.” and “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Jr..”  She is excited to bring the magic of the stage to White Rock Montessori.

In this camp, we will realize the joy of self-expression through crafting "word art" in a fun, relaxed, and supportive atmosphere. Students will be invited to try various forms of poetry, narratives, comics, and book-making. We will read inspiring short stories that highlight the use of various techniques for voice, word choice, and fluency. Students will develop the confidence of authorship through collaborating, sharing, and maybe even performing.  Sharing stories is a transformative experience for both the storyteller and the audience as they connect and grow!

Ms. Bell is a lover of words and ideas, stories and poetry. She has attended various trainings on the Six Traits of Writing.

Why is a giraffe’s’ neck so long? Where did all the saber toothed tigers go? What is quicksand? How do volcanoes erupt? In Science Discovery camp the children will explore questions like these about the natural world. They will get creative (and messy!) with hands-on explorations of how the principles of earth science, chemistry, biology, and ecology work together to create the wonderfully diverse world we live in.

Science Camp will be led by LE2 teacher, Candy Gwyn. With an educational and professional background in anthropology, Ms. Gwyn delights in sharing with her students a deep appreciation of the creativity and diversity of life.

Students will explore concepts that promote environmental awareness, such as how ecosystems work, and how our daily lives are inexorably linked to the natural world.

Each day will include:

  • enlightening and inspiring literature
  • hands on activities such as sustainable crafts and cooking
  • scientific inquiry, discussion, and experimentation

Through learning and caring, we CAN become stewards of our magnificent planet and its amazing inhabitants!

As a child, Ms. Bell attended similar "nature camps" at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. She will never forget the lessons learned there about producers, consumers, decomposers, pollinators, etc... She is passionate about sustainability and has spent countless hours figuring out how to get by using as little plastic as possible. The Lorax is her hero.

In this Summer Camp, students will have the opportunity to explore the process of making beautiful handmade jewelry projects in a wide range of exciting techniques like bead stringing, crimping, wire wrapping, and making beads with clay, paper, and more. Students will have access to thousands of beads from a fabulous range of colors. Finished Jewelry creations will be taken home at the end of each day.

Emely Galiana Tascon is a jewelry designer who has designed and made jewelry pieces for twenty years. Fourteen years ago, she discovered that she also loved to share her passion for jewelry-making with children and adults. Emely completed jewelry fabrication and design courses at the Craft Guild of Dallas, as well as internationally - in Uruguay (her home country), Colombia, and Greece.

Give My Regards to Broadway - Senior Production

Get your jazz hands ready for Give My Regards to Broadway - Senior! The WRM music and art programs will be joining forces to get you singing and dancing some of Broadway’s greatest songs. Students 5th-8th grade will collaborate artistically preparing sets, costumes and props and will learn valuable musical theater basics such as voice projection and blocking, the movement of the actors on stage. Ensemble Summer Boot Camp

The White Rock Montessori Ensemble is a dynamic instrument group committed to performing a unique repertoire of music on a variety of instruments including drums, recorders, and Orff instruments.  This summer we are offering a camp to give future Ensemble members a head start on their fall semester music, along with opportunities to brush up on their music theory, improvisation and conducting skills.  This camp is open to incoming 4th graders and returning 5th through 8th graders.  On the last day of the camp, the students will share what they have worked on that week with a small performance!  

Mrs. Wheeler enjoys arranging songs for the Ensemble group from different genres including classical, videogame music, and rock n’ roll.

Take a trip to the far corners of the globe to explore the stories, customs, and art of five different cultures! We will visit a different country each day and enjoy literature and exploring a variety of crafts such as...

  • decorating a boomerang with Australian Aboriginal dot painting
  • learning the technique of Mehndi henna painting of India
  • creating an original design with (faux) Mexican metal tooling
  • trying our hand at batik printing which spread from Egypt to Indonesia
  • weaving a bracelet in the vibrant primary colors of Lapland
  • and MORE!!!

Ms. Bell has been exploring various adventures in crafting ever since she can remember and loves studying and collecting folk art from around the world. She has been teaching in elementary classrooms for over 20 years. She received her Montessori certification in 2007 and has been teaching in WRM's LE2 ever since.

The Global Peel

Travel the globe through food and art. Prepare recipes from the most beautiful places on earth while learning cooking techniques such as rolling sushi, frying, and baking.  This camp will fill the belly while enhancing the understanding of cultures and customs from around the world through dance, poetry, and artistic expression. Campers will create and participate in a daily celebration that honors many traditions of humanity.

Tara Humphrey is a teaching anthropologist and published author. She has an educational background in Anthropology & Philosophy from Wichita State University and produced multicultural events nationwide for over twelve years. She has been in the classroom since 2012 teaching poetry and anthropology for many Dallas non-profits. She also loves to eat.

The curriculum will be enjoyable and varied, i.e. use of film clips, music, and other kinesthetic media. The Middle School Summer Seminar will be a "busy work" and homework free environment.  

Angelo Piersanti's credentials include AMS Montessori Secondary I training from the Houston Montessori Center, a B.A. in Economics from Texas A&M University in Commerce, TX, and a Master of Education degree in Integrative Learning from Endicott College in Beverly, MA. Mr. Piersanti has been a Middle School teacher at White Rock Montessori since 2006.
